Dad’s Egg-in-Toast

Dad’s Egg-in-Toast
Buttery toast, runny egg, 3 ingredients, and ready in 10 minutes. Dad’s Egg-in-Toast (or Egg in a Hole) breakfast is hard to beat in both ease and yumminess.
What is Dad’s Egg-in-Toast?
My siblings and I grew up calling this breakfast “Egg-In-Toast”. You all have told me it is otherwise known as Egg in a Hole, Toad in the Hole, Egg in a Basket, One-Eyed Jack, Birdie in a Basket, and probably other names.
It’s a simple one-skillet breakfast made with butter, a slice of bread, an egg, and salt and pepper. Toast the bread in the melted butter on the skillet, and cook the egg in a hole torn out of the middle of the bread. That’s it!
It was my dad’s special breakfast for my 4 siblings and I growing up, and it continues to be one of my family’s go-to breakfast staples. I hope it becomes a favorite breakfast in your home, as well!

To make Dad’s Egg-in-Toast you’ll need bread, eggs, butter, salt and pepper. For supplies you’ll need a *medium/large skillet (I love our Green Pan Skillets!), and a spatula. Easy, easy.
Dad’s Egg-in-Toast: Let’s get to it!

- Preheat a medium/large skillet over medium heat. Melt the butter in the skillet.
- While the butter melts, tear a hole in the center of the bread slices. Hole should be big enough for an egg to fit.

- Place the toast (and the center circles) in the skillet to let toast in the butter for about 3 minutes. Carefully crack the egg into the center of the hole. Repeat for second slice of toast.

- Then, once the egg is partially cooked (about 2 minutes), use a spatula to flip each piece of toast over being careful to not puncture the yolk. Flip the center circles as well. Next, let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until all the egg white is cooked, but the yolk is still runny. Enjoy!

- Enjoy!
